Welcome! The Pennington County Firefighters’ Association is made up of members from volunteer and career fire departments from throughout Pennington County, including 19 volunteer fire departments, two career fire departments, and a search and rescue team. The Association meets the third Sunday, every other month, starting in January. Meetings typically start with a ‘fire house’ style meal at 1600 hrs., and last a few hours. Topics of discussion include upcoming training and events, radio and paging communication issues and solutions, and legislation updates. Meetings are open to all firefighters and agency personnel. Activities planned and funded by the Association include the Mid Winter Muster, the annual Firefighters’ Banquet, and wildland fire training. The Muster, held in February each year, is a county-wide training weekend where we bring in nationally recognized speakers and offer classes for every level of firefighter, from entry level to chief officers. The Firefighters’ Banquet, held in October, is an opportunity for outstanding members of the Pennington County fire service to be recognized and honored for their service. Wildland fire training (one or two classes are held per month from September to May) is free of charge and is scheduled to work with most volunteer’s work schedules. These classes are the stepping stones for firefighters to move up in the wildland fire chain of command. In addition, the Association encourages county firefighters to attend the National Fire Academy, by providing a stipend to help defray costs. |
